About

Max is a fine artist and portrait painter based in Shropshire, who has been captivated by portraiture from a young age. The human face, with its unique capacity for character and communication, serves as a constant inspiration for his imagination. Max completed his studies at Charles Cecil Studios in Italy from 2008 to 2011. Subsequently, he carried out portrait commissions in oil and charcoal, as well as still life paintings, from his London studio, before recently relocating to his new studio in Shropshire.

Max's paintings have gathered praise across the globe, and he has exhibited widely with institutions including the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Pastel Society, and the Chelsea Arts Society.

Selected Awards & Exhibitions

"My passion lies in painting from life, where I am captivated by the organic process of translating my immediate reality onto canvas. This enthusiasm is complemented by a profound curiosity about texture, layers, and edges — constantly exploring innovative methods to convey the tactile and characterful aspects of what I see through the medium of paint."

Charcoal & Oil Commissions

Max accepts a limited number of portrait commissions each year, working in oil and charcoal from life or from photographs. To enquire about a commission — including pricing, sizes and timelines — please get in touch using the details below.
